DAVID P. CLARK has been teaching Molecular Biology for over 30 years and holds an honors BA from Christs College in Cambridge and a PhD from the University of Bristol. During his thirty years of teaching he has won several research awards, published over 70 research articles and has published a number of textbooks including Molecular Biology and Biotechnology. He brings his passion for his work into his writing along with a refreshing, down to earth approach. David P. Clark currently teaches in the Department of Microbiology at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois.

Nanette J. Pazdernik, Ph.D. is a co-author of Molecular Biology (2nd ed.) and Biotechnology with Dr. David Clark. She has also authored the online study guide that accompanies the Academic Cell Update Edition of Molecular Biology. She has taught courses in Genetics as well as Anatomy and Physiology at Southwestern Illinois College and McKendree University. She received her BA in Biology from Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin, in 1990 and her PhD in Molecular, Cellular, Developmental Biology and Genetics from the University of Minnesota in 1996. Her doctoral thesis studied how alterations in the structure of lactose permease affect its ability to transport sugar across the membrane of E. coli. Following her degrees, she investigated the IL-1 and TNF signal transduction pathways that control apoptosis and immunity at Indiana University School of Medicine. She is currently researching the different molecules that initiate the differentiation of mitotic cells into meiotic cells in C. elegans at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, MO. She is married and the mother of three children, ages 11, 8, and 4, which always make her realize the role biology plays in personality and development!
